The tale goes that a long time ago, Kinga, daughter of King Bèla IV of Hungary, had been promised to
Boleslao V, the future king of Poland. Kinga asked her father to give her a salt mine to take as dowry to
her husband and to the Poles. The king consented, and Kinga by divine inspiration cast her engagement
ring into the well of a saltmine in Hungary.
When the wedding cortège was nearing Cracow, and once again by divine inspiration, Kinga gave orders
that a well should be dug close by their caravan in Wieliczka. There an enormous deposit of rocksalt was
found and the tale concludes when Kinga’s ring appears mounted in the first block of salt brought to the
surface.
The Kinga ring was created for women with great intuition, women willing to risk. By not taking risks,
exceptional surprises may be missed. It is the uncertainty and adrenaline that confer greatest satisfaction
to those who wear this ring.
